Pandering and Religion are fighting words when used in the same sentence. ;-) A Unity Breakfast ought to have been possible without the prayer, but that appears to be one of the few things that mainstream Republicans and Democrats acknowledge they have in common in Lancaster. It is not surprising, albeit disappointng, that the planners considered this a societal norm rather than a potentially divisive and inappropriate intrusion of church into affairs of state.

Charlie - Peter Montgomery here from Lancaster B in C days. I was in Lancaster visiting my folks over the weekend and saw the Sunday News story - it was great to see your defense of church-state separation and the description of you as a progressive local leader. I work on church-state issues among others at People For the American Way in D.C. Best wishes to you - and my best to Hobie.
great to hear from you, peter. call me at the office if you get a chance
